Not every project has some deep lore and origin story! For this one I just wanted to take a class with the one and only Kaha. She’s got some of the most unique and interesting style in the miniature painting game today, and I was lucky enough to take her color and sketching class at adepticon (Adepticon 2026!).
This was an awesome class that explored her approach to color selection, laying down initial colors, and balancing harmony and contrast. It was a real firehose of material.
And we got a free bust to practice on! I’ll admit this isn’t particularly my style, and I’ve had some explaining to do around the house and the painting group at work as to why I was painting such a particularly saucy piece.
But, I do think it is useful to do a piece from time to time you are not too invested in, just to work on and practice techniques and producing a pleasing result. So I got this one into shape for pigment! After a couple of rounds of coaching, I think this got to a perfectly serviceable place, and got me thinking a bit differently about color and layout!
