I’m busy getting ready for Unioncon, so I’m going to post something here that I had shared on Instagram but not in a proper, long-term post! The Founding of the Inquisitorial Triumvirate of the Ordo Novo
[Annual Session of the Advisory Subcommittee to the Adjunct Council to Regent Alimar, High Lord of Terra, Year 39985]
Protomagnate Antilles: As our final order of business, we have received a highest priority transmission from the Imperial Governor of Prima V, deep in the Mortavus Rift. The code was scrambled during transmission, increasing our processing time to several years. Governor Galvani warns of an imminent threat to the capital from xenos hordes seeking to seize the so-called astral conduit, and, if immediate action is not taken, he warns of the fall of Prima V. As processing of this transmission has been delayed, we believe, with high probability, the planet is lost and the plea irrelevant. We were going to discard the message, but four other governors in the sector have also sent similar pleas in the interim, which warranted inclusion on the agenda. Before we adjourn, we should discuss the best course of action…
High Lord Bartholomus: Protomagnate, we are about to break for high tea, and we have just received a fresh batch of pickled harbash of the highest quality. A few measly planets in a forgotten sector hardly merit disruption of such a feast…
Protomagnate Antilles: But sir, the readings from the astronomicon and the local imperial navy garrison indicate…
High Lord Bartholomus: *sighs audibly* Very well, in the interest of tea time let us proceed thusly. Appoint an Inquisitor, one from each of the ordos, to investigate and address these issues. Let us call it, say, The Triumvirate… yes, that will do nicely… and dispatch them post haste to investigate and report back within two sols. Allow them use of all local imperial resources. Happy? Very good, meeting adjourned… Servitor, begin the tea service!
With that, the Triumvirate was formed. Chosen from the Ordo Malleus, Ordo Xenos, and Ordo Hereticus, Inquisitors Ducat, Leonato, and Hippolyta were dispatched with their black ships into the rift to restore order and claim the astral conduit.
Yet the fleet was wracked by the storm of the rift, their crew savaged and the Inquisitors forced to evacuate to local planets. They found themselves cut off, forced to adapt unorthodox means to spread the Emperor’s light. Drawn to dark powers and xenos knowledge, the Triumvirate turned to radical means, forming the Ordos Novos, determined to seize the power of the astral conduit by any means necessary…
