The Siege of Toledo: Trench Crusade Campaign!

The forces of Hell have been pushed back from their advance into southern Europe, thanks to the noble sacrifices of the combined forces from the Holy Roman Empire and Rome itself. Trapped between the fortified Alps mountains and the Elite Swiss Guard defenders, evil has been unable to advance for over a year.

However, increased raids have been reported in southern Spain, and worries of a new front opening in the war is on the wind. The forces of Heaven have begun massing armies in Madrid, the largest population center on the Iberian Peninsula, as well as calling for aid from all allies to mount a defence from the rising threat.

Our mighty warlord Cren is leading us in a new campaign with the Garage Gamers- Trench Crusade! Yes, we’re joining the hit trend sweeping the nation.

I am bringing my trench ghosts, the Banshees of Brusilov, on an endless hunt for arcane artifacts.

We find ourselves in the Iberian peninsula, on the flank of the great war in the east. Can we find purchase and break through on this front?

Game one, we jumped in for a bit of a warmup! I squared off against Bowling Alley Lobster Roll’s Black Grail forces! It was gross evil on evil action!

We played the amazing From Below scenario, where an ancient evil slumbers beneath an field littered with artillery. We needed to retrieve the magical blood ichor from the gross pools before all the explosions awakened an ancient god, Cabin in the Woods style.

We got off to a good start, both advancing as we plinked away at each other.

I used one of my wretched to hit an artillery shell in my endzone, spilling blood ichor everywhere! The next one might awake the beast!

I started farming that nearby one, while the Black Grail moved into the center.

The Black Grail leader did get charged by my Death Commando and was bloodied, before absolutely murderfying my death commando! What a scary dude!

But then Bowling Alley Lobster Roll realized he was falling behind as I scored two VPs exfiltrating blood ichor. He decided to send in one of his goons to blow up another shell to get some VPs. He succeeded, and rolled a 6- the Elder god awakened!

The game immediately ended all all models were taken out of action. What madness!

I had several models go perma-dead, including one of my expensive Infernal Soldier dudes! Being quite in the hole, I decided to do ‘call reinforcements’, which would skip all the cool exploration stuff but make sure I could re-hire my dudes!

Excited for the next one, hopefully I can start advancing the warband a bit more and not just be replacing dudes!
