The Great Northern War Begins!

New year, new project!

Earlier this year, we took a trip to Baccus Miniatures in Sheffield, a powerhouse in the world of 6mm metal miniatures. This inspired us to dive into some of the rabbit holes well suited for 6mm wargaming.

I’ve long been fascinated by the short-lived Swedish Empire, Gustavus Adolphus and all that. Perhaps someday I’ll do the army of the Lion of the North in the thirty years war, but another fascination is Charles XII, Peter the Great, and the end of the Swedish Empire.

Yes that’s right, everyone’s favorite baltic conflict, the Great Northern War! Haha, I think most folks outside of the Baltic sphere probably don’t ever think much about this conflict, but its a pretty wild story and full of characters. This will be a big 2026 project for sure, building out some minis, terrain and battles. My buddy dove into the forces of Augustus the Strong (European Fox Tossing Champion) of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. He might do some Saxons next.

I’ve started in on the Swedes, and have Peter the Great’s Russians next! Here’s my first ones done, hope to do a step by step for these pikemen next!

First Swedish infantry of the Upplands regiment!

Up next some pikemen!

Looking forward to this project, where we will dive into the history, including rules, scenarios for historic battles, terrain, and of course finishing our armies!
